The steps

  1. Your browser hands the page the files in the folder you picked; the page reads them with the File API.
  2. Each text file is split into words and counted into an index held in memory.
  3. A search scores each file with BM25 (the same ranking SQLite's full-text index uses) and boosts files whose name or folder matches.
  4. Open a hit to read it, or copy a context pack of the top five to paste into a note or a message.

What is different from Unlost

Unlost (mobleysoft.com) is a Mac tool that keeps a lasting index of your files, connectors and history. Lostfound needs no install: it searches one folder, right now, in the browser, and keeps nothing.
